Your Big Brother Wants To Take You Camping
I ran across this article in the New Republic that references this article in the NYTs. It bemoans the lack of participation in outdoor activities such as camping and hiking--any activity that Outside magazine would cover, essentially--by ethnic minorities. It's never clear why minorities should be interested in the great outdoors, other than they're missing out on what the authors believe are wonderful experiences. Both writers speak approvingly of the National Parks Service efforts to attract more Blacks and Hispanics. Our tax dollars at work trying to align the interests and tastes of minorities with white people. Why they can't appreciate diversity I don't know.
And as if the content of the article isn't enough, the NYT's title for the print edition of it is "National Parks Reaching Out To Minorities".
