The Ocean

Cue the soundtrack

Well we wrapped up season 5 of  The Walking Dead. No spoilers here, but we're pointed to pondering what has become of our hero lawman, Rick Grimes. Rick has, uhm, adapted to his new environment and has finally gotten his act together.

As the show sets up the camps of good, bad and ugly, we are supposed to contemplate each and wonder which we would be. But there's a set of deeper questions (way deeper) to all of this: really. What is the difference between zombieland and western civ, other than the obvious presence of zombies? Is society different from Rick's world? Is Rick's world an oversimplified hyperbolic representation of ours? What forces separate our world from Rick's; how strong are they? Are we strengthening those forces? Weakening them? Will excessive, unnecessary, elective surgery/chem/hormone treatment create the zombie horde? Will AI and its robot cohorts create zombies to enslave mankind? Will Severely Ltd be good enough at mucking stalls and entertaining Teh Humungus' horses to earn a meal?

Enjoy your breakfast, fellow humans - winter is coming, as they say.

This has been another great day to be alive (and not undead) moment.
